The Global Hispanophone
Course Title: The Global Hispanophone: Empire, The Postcolonial, and Representation
Day & Time: Wednesdays, 2:00pm - 5:00pm
This course is aimed to address the Global Hispanophone, which broadens the lens of traditional Hispanic studies to incorporate the transnational, colonial, and postcolonial relationships between Spain and its former colonies in Asia (the Philippines) and Africa
(Equatorial Guinea and Morocco). The Global Hispanophone approach allows us to understand these colonial encounters and postcolonial migrations as part of a larger network of cultural exchanges, linguistic power dynamics, and identity formations that
transcend national boundaries.
Cristián H. Ricci
Dr. Cristián H. Ricci is a Professor of Iberian Studies and North African Studies at the University of California, Merced. His literary research interests and experience include the narrative of Spain, the literature of Morocco written in Western European languages (Castilian, Catalan, French, Dutch, English); and the literatures of Equatorial Guinea and Latin America from 1800 through the present.
