UCDC PREP

The UCDC Prep series is offered to prepare incoming UC students participating in the UCDC program with the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to successfully begin the program. 

UCDC Prep includes live virtual sessions with UCDC staff and weekly emails with important updates, reminders, and internship leads -all of which are meant to help students stay on track for their arrival in Washington D.C. UCDC Prep is offered to students accepted into the UCDC program the term prior to their participation in the program.

UCDC Prep Objectives

This series is designed to guide students through all the essential steps to ensure a successful and well-prepared UCDC experience. By the end of the series, students will be able to:

1. Understand the UCDC Timeline

   • Review key milestones and required actions from the start of the Prep Series to the beginning of the UCDC term.

2. Navigate the Internship Search and Application Process

   • Learn how to identify a wide range of internship opportunities aligned with academic and career interests.

   • Understand how to apply strategically to maximize chances of success.

3. Strengthen Application Materials

   • Review best practices for creating effective resumes and compelling cover letters tailored to internship roles.

4. Enhance Interview Skills

   • Develop techniques to confidently and professionally navigate the internship interview process.

5. Prepare for Academic Enrollment

   • Explore UCDC course offerings and plan for course selection and registration.

6. Learn About UCDC Resources and Support Services

   • Become familiar with the resources, programs, and services offered through the UC Washington Center to support your academic, professional, and personal success.

7. Plan for Living in Washington, D.C.

   • Understand the cost of living and create a realistic budget.

   • Learn about housing at the UC Washington Center.

   • Gain insight into the city, including transportation, safety, and cultural opportunities.
