The UC Washington Center strives to create an environment that fosters the values of mutual respect and tolerance and is free from discrimination based on race, ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and other personal characteristics. Certainly harassment, in its many forms, works against those values and often corrodes a person’s sense of worth and interferes with one’s ability to participate in University programs or activities. While the Center is committed to the free exchange of ideas and the full protection of free expression, the Center also recognizes that words can be used in such a way that they no longer express an idea, but rather injure and intimidate, thus undermining the ability of individuals to participate in the University community.
The University of California Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students presently prohibit a variety of conduct by students that, in certain contexts, may be regarded as harassment or intimidation. The University of California Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy prohibits sexual violence, sexual harassment and other forms of sexual misconduct.
The University of California, in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or age in any of its policies, procedures, or practices. This nondiscrimination policy covers admission and access to, and treatment and employment in university programs and activities, including but not limited to, academic admission, financial aid, educational services, and student employment. The following person has been designated to serve as the Title IX coordinator, John Sims Title IX Coordinator, at email@example.com.
