In addition to the usage of Financial Aid, accepted UCDC students are eligible for a variety of fellowships and scholarships to help offset the costs of the UCDC program. In addition to the opportunities listed below, we encourage you to consult with your campus coordinator for additional sources of funding offered through your campus.
(Fall, Winter, and Spring)
The SUIP Program is designed to help students who participate in UCDC Academic terms to better afford their term in Washington, DC, and to allow them to participate fully in the program.
ELIGIBILITY: Any UCDC Student who secures:
an unpaid internship can receive $1,000.
an internship compensated less than $1,000 will receive the difference up to $1,000.
All academic program participants are automatically eligible for the program once they have secured an internship and provided the appropriate documentation.
(including compensation verification by internship organization) to UCDC staff. Funds are disbursed through the students' home campus financial aid office.

(Winter quarter / Spring semester)
Two $1,000 fellowships are available each winter quarter/spring semester for UCDC participants who demonstrate financial need and an interest in social justice or international diplomacy. The scholarships are supported by a donation from Stephanie Sides, a UC Berkeley graduate (’76) and longtime writer and instructor at UC San Diego.
In cooperation with the National Science Foundation, and the American Chemical Society, a Science Policy Internship Program (SPIP) has been established.Students enrolled in science, engineering, and mathematics majors are encouraged to apply to SPIP to experience how scientists and engineers play in an important role in national policy making, government regulation, and other activities at the interface of science and public policy. Internships can be performed at a variety of organizations, including the American Chemical Society, Environmental Protection Agency, Health and Human Services Administration, and many others. Awards can be up to $1500.
Named in honor of Warren R. Betts, the fund supports CHASS students participating in the UCDC program and has secured an internship with an arts or humanities connection. Including but not exclusive to organizations focused on the arts or humanities (i.e., government agencies and councils; museums, libraries, and archives; theatres and performing arts centers, community non-profits, etc.).
David Betts (BA, Theatre ʼ90) — alumni, donor, and Board of Trustees member—established the Fund in honor of his father, Warren Betts, who supported his interest and passion to pursue theatre though he did not ultimately pursue a career in theatre arts. The award is intended to provide students with the opportunity to use the concepts and skills learned through the arts and humanities in a multitude of career paths, including those that may not have a direct arts or humanities focus.
The minimum award amount is $2,500.
In addition to the award, the Fund will cover travel expenses between Southern California (or the awardees official home residence) and Washington, D.C. Travel will be arranged by CHASS.
To be eligible, you must:
Be an undergraduate student at UCR and have a declared major in CHASS.
Be enrolled in the UCDC program that will conclude by June 30 of your senior year.
Have secured an internship with an arts or humanities connection.

This scholarship is designed for students passionate about exploring the financial services sector while studying and interning in Washington, DC. With scholarships of up to $2,000, this program supports students who are eager to gain hands-on experience and build their future careers.

How to apply

- Provide a brief statement (up to 250 words) that elucidates how your past or future work can help to build and diversify the pipeline into the financial services sector.
Recipients will be selected based on their interest in the financial services sector, academic achievements, contributions to diversity, and financial need.
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Southwest Airlines have announced the 2024 , Lánzate! Travel Award Program. Online applications will be accepted from college student through April 26, 2024. For complete eligibility and additional guidelines, click here.
“For many students the challenge of leaving home for the first time is debilitating in their pursuit for higher education,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “The ¡Lánzate! Travel Award Program, a successful partnership between HACU and Southwest Airlines for nearly two decades, has allowed students the opportunity to stay connected with their families while remaining focused on their educational pursuits.”
Southwest Airlines tickets are awarded to undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students with socio-economic needs who journey away from home to pursue higher education. Students must submit an essay and enrollment verification with their application. Each student is eligible to receive between one and four e-passes for use by the student or immediate family to travel to/from a college or university.
