UCDC is committed to making our Academic Internship Program accessible to all UC
students – that’s the UCDC Promise – and our partnership with our employers is a vital piece of this promise.
This UCDC commitment is demonstrated through the following:
UCDC invests $100,000+ per year in its Basic Needs & Wellness Program.
All students have access to UCDC’s Basic Needs Pantry which is regularly stocked with pantry staples, fresh food, and hygiene products.
All students have access to cost-free online mental health counseling services.
Students receive a U-Pass giving them unlimited use of Metro bus and rail during all terms but summer.
Students in unpaid internships receive an award up to $1000 to help cover expenses during all terms but summer.
Our employer partners support this commitment through the offering of internships that are hands-on and engaging.
To ensure a rewarding and productive internship experience, host organizations are asked to:
Be located within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area
Provide interns with at least 24-32 hours of meaningful work each week
Allow students time to attend their required seminars
Designate a supervisor or mentor who will meet regularly with the intern to offer guidance or feedback
Ensure access to necessary work infrastructure (workspace, equipment, access to files, email, etc.)
Whenever possible, offer compensation or supplemental support (such as stipends or travel assistance). To promote equity, UCDC also offers programs that help subsidize unpaid internships
We know hosting an intern can take some time and work, so we are in the process of creating a few resources to help you.
