This position is part of a small team of IT professionals serving the needs of the University of California, Washington Center, an 11-story mixed use facility in Washington DC. The building provides housing for University students and faculty and houses the offices and programs of the Washington Academic Center, the Office of Federal Governmental Relations (FGR) as well as University MRUs. The Washington Center employs a variety of leading edge technologies and techniques to fulfill its academic mission and is expected to be a point of innovation for the development of academic technology. Reporting to the UCDC Chief Technology Officer; the Infrastructure Engineer will troubleshoot, build, and implement network data, telecom, and television systems across the Washington Center enterprise ensuring the stability and integrity of network services. Other duties include participating in the installation of new technology solutions with responsibility for monitoring, fault remediation, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.

This is a hands-on position that requires the incumbent to identify problems in the Center's network infrastructure and propose solutions. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced systems infrastructure professional with a full understanding of industry best practices and Campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope. Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost/benefit analyses.
